Sumit Manmar Sudan, an NCC cadet from the Jammu and Kashmir Directorate, has been selected to participate in the Overseas Ship Deployment (OSD) program aboard the Indian Coast Guard Ship Shaunak. Sudan will visit Indonesia, Japan, and Singapore as part of this prestigious deployment from December 16, 2024, to February 3, 2025.
A student of MAM College and a member of the 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC, Sudan's selection marks a notable achievement for the region. Brigadier Pranab Misra, the officiating Additional Director General of the NCC Directorate, JK&L, interacted with the cadet during a pre-departure session. Brigadier Misra praised Sudan on his selection and urged him to use this opportunity to explore the traditions, culture, and ethos of the host countries.
"Such visits not only contribute to the holistic development of NCC cadets but also play a key role in boosting relationships between countries at a citizen-to-citizen level and aligning with strategic objectives," said Brigadier Misra.
The Overseas Ship Deployment program offers cadets a unique chance to gain global exposure, widen their horizons, and serve as cultural ambassadors for India. Sudan’s participation in this program emphasizes the NCC’s commitment to nurturing young leaders with a global perspective.
This deployment will allow the cadet to engage with the maritime practices of three key nations in the Indo-Pacific region, further improving the strong ties between India and these countries. (PR)
