On the occasion of Earth Day,Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for a unified commitment to preserving the environment and safeguarding the planet’s future. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the Chief Minister highlighted the theme of this year’s Earth Day—“One Earth, One Future, One Determination”underscoring the urgent need for collective action.
"One Earth is ours. Let’s commit to protect the climate with a green pledge for this Earth," said CM Sarma in his appeal. He continued, “Protect the climate and go green, because there’s no Planet B,” a call that resonates deeply in the face of rising global environmental challenges.
The CM’s message comes as the world grapples with the effects of climate change and environmental degradation. With unprecedented heatwaves, unpredictable weather patterns, and growing pollution, the need for immediate and united action is more critical than ever. Sarma’s call is aimed at not only raising awareness but also inspiring citizens, especially the youth, to actively engage in sustainable practices and ensure the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
The Assam government has been at the forefront of green initiatives in the region. Recent campaigns have focused on afforestation drives, reducing plastic usage, and promoting the use of renewable resources. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to make Assam a model for environmental conservation in the northeast.
As part of his commitment to a greener future, CM Sarma has encouraged citizens to participate in activities that help reduce the carbon footprint, such as planting trees, using less plastic, and embracing alternative energy sources. He also stressed the importance of individual responsibility, calling on every Assamese to take part in protecting the state's rich natural heritage.
“We all must come together to ensure that future generations inherit a world that is not only livable but thriving,” Sarma added. His call for unity echoes the urgent message that environmental preservation requires collective effort, transcending individual and regional interests.
The Earth Day appeal is just one part of the ongoing green initiatives spearheaded by the Assam government. With active collaboration between local communities, NGOs, and the youth, Assam aims to lead the charge in sustainable development, not just for the present but for a more resilient and greener future.
As Earth Day serves as a reminder of the critical role each of us plays in the health of our planet, CM Sarma’s message reinforces the importance of working together. In the face of mounting environmental challenges, the call for one united green effort is a step toward securing the future of the Earth—one pledge at a time.(fb)
