Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the Central Air Command (CAC), inaugurated the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) C-295 Full Motion Simulator (FMS) facility at Air Force Station Agra on November 11, 2024. This new simulator is expected to revolutionize the way pilots are trained, offering a cutting-edge solution to improve readiness and operational efficiency.
The C-295 FMS provides an advanced, near-realistic training environment that will allow pilots to undertake a wide variety of critical missions such as tactical airlift, para-dropping, para-trooping, medical evacuation, and disaster relief. Additionally, it can simulate various high-risk operational scenarios, ensuring that pilots are well-prepared for real-world situations that demand quick, decisive action.
One of the key advantages of the simulator is its ability to replicate emergency situations, enabling pilots to hone their skills in handling high-stakes decisions during time-critical emergencies. By training in such scenarios, the simulator significantly enhances flight safety and operational readiness. This move also represents a significant reduction in the amount of valuable flying hours spent on aircraft, optimizing resources and ensuring the safety of both pilots and missions.
The inauguration of the C-295 FMS comes ahead of the induction of the C-295 aircraft into the IAF, which is expected to bolster the nation’s defense capabilities. The project is also seen as a major step in furthering the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, paving the way for private sector participation in the production of transport aircraft in India. This move aligns with the ongoing efforts to make India self-reliant in defense technology and aerospace manufacturing.
With the new simulator now in operation, the IAF is set to enhance its combat readiness and continue strengthening its airlift capabilities, contributing to the nation’s defense preparedness. (PR)
