In a major leap for military healthcare, the Indian Army has introduced an advanced 3D Microscope system at Army Hospital (Research and Referral) New Delhi. The Department of Ophthalmology recently performed a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery using this cutting-edge technology, marking a first for the Armed Forces.
The new 3D visualization system features a 55-inch 4K ultra-HD display and special polarisation glasses, giving surgeons an enhanced three-dimensional view during procedures. This breakthrough is expected to improve outcomes in a range of eye surgeries, including treatments for squint, cataracts, corneal issues, glaucoma, and retinal diseases.
Doctors say the 3D microscope offers several key advantages over traditional surgical microscopes. These include shorter surgical times, fewer complications, reduced light exposure to sensitive eye tissues, and easier management of complex cases. Surgeons and operating staff have reported high levels of satisfaction using the system.
Army officials highlighted that the introduction of this technology reflects the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to delivering world-class medical care to its personnel and their families. The facility further strengthens Army Hospital (R&R) position as one of the leading centres for specialised medical treatment in the country.
