The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) organized the North East Trade and Investment Roadshow in Mumbai, attracting strong interest from businesses in India's financial capital. This event was the final one in a yearlong series of roadshows across top Indian cities. Key leaders attending the event included Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Communications and MDoNER; Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura; Shri Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya; and senior officials from MDoNER.
Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia talked about the major changes happening in North East India, thanks to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the region’s strong economic growth, with an 11% GDP growth rate, and its strategic position as a gateway to Southeast Asia. Scindia highlighted the region's progress in infrastructure, education, and technological industries, making it an important player in India’s future. He motivated investors to consider the North East, focusing on sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and technology, and highlighted the region’s youth, high literacy rates, and natural resources as key advantages.
Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura, shared details about the state’s economic progress. He explained that Tripura is growing rapidly, with good infrastructure and a supportive environment for businesses. Saha highlighted the state’s natural resources, such as bamboo and rubber, and its focus on sustainable agriculture and technology, making it an ideal place for investment. He also mentioned the state’s efforts in education, healthcare, and skill development to make Tripura an attractive destination for businesses.
Shri Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, talked about the state's growth in tourism, food processing, and infrastructure. He pointed out the completion of a new airport in Shillong and the growth of luxury tourism projects, which are making Meghalaya a top choice for investors. Sangma also mentioned the state’s focus on youth empowerment through job training and creating opportunities in the IT sector.
Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of MDoNER, spoke about the region's impressive infrastructure improvements, including better roads, railways, airways, and digital connectivity. He highlighted that the North Eastern Region is growing faster than the national standard and is becoming an attractive place for investment, thanks to stable policies and better connectivity.
Smt. Monalisa Dash, Joint Secretary of MDoNER, explained the various government schemes that have helped the region grow, such as the UNNATI Scheme and PM DevINE. She highlighted the North East’s natural resources, biodiversity, and tourism potential, along with its growing infrastructure, which makes it a profitable place for investment.
The roadshow attracted interest from many businesses, with several meetings between the government and potential investors. The event served as an important step in promoting the North Eastern Region as a key player in India’s economic future.
