New Delhi: The 7th edition of NESt FEST 2024, organised by My Home India, concluded on a high note, celebrating India’s diverse and vibrant culture under the theme ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.’ The event began with a powerful rendition of the national song, Vande Mataram, sung together by Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju, alongside other dignitaries and attendees, filling the atmosphere with pride and unity.
In his welcome address, Shri Sunil Deodhar, the founder of My Home India, stressed the importance of strengthening the bond of oneness across the nation, emphasising unity amidst diversity. Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, former Union Minister, followed with a speech praising My Home India’s efforts to promote the welfare of the Northeastern region, particularly in supporting students studying across the country.
Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju, in his keynote address, highlighted My Home India’s work in reuniting missing children with their families and fostering a welcoming environment for Northeastern students in Delhi. He praised the Modi government’s accomplishments over the past decade, particularly its focus on the Northeast, remarking that the region was not just a part of India but a representation of the nation itself. "We are the mainstream," he stated. He also reflected on his achievement as the first SC-ST Law Minister since Dr BR Ambedkar and noted that three tribal ministers were serving in the Union government.
During the event, Shri Rijiju honoured senior RSS Pracharaks, Shri SB Konale ji and Shri Jagdamba Mall ji, for their dedicated service in Meghalaya and Nagaland, respectively. Both have contributed significantly to the development and welfare of the Northeastern region through their roles in the RSS and Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram.
Union Minister of Development of the Northeastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, also graced the event. He highlighted the Modi government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and air connectivity in the Northeast, describing the region as a "precious gem in the Bharat Mala." Shri Scindia also recognised Padma Shri Uday Deshpande for his work in reviving the traditional Indian sport of Mallakhamb.
The event featured several cultural performances, including a remarkable Mallakhamb display by visually impaired students from Uday Deshpande's academy. Students from Delhi University, Subharti University, and Chandigarh University showcased traditional and tribal folk dances, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Northeast.
The evening was further enlivened by performances from well-known Northeastern artists, including Jessie Lyngdoh, a singer from Meghalaya, Alobo Naga, a band from Nagaland, and Ruatpuil, a celebrated Mizo folk singer. These performances captivated the audience and highlighted the artistic brilliance of the region.
With active participation from students across the country and captivating performances by renowned Northeastern artists, NESt FEST 2024 successfully highlighted India's unity in diversity, celebrating the unique cultural contributions of the Northeast and its integral role in the nation’s broader cultural tapestry.
