A special event for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) took place on 4th February 2025 in Nagopara, Boko, Kamrup, Assam. This event called the Ex-Servicemen Re-Union Rally, brought together veterans, widows, and family members to discuss and solve problems related to pensions, banking, and important documents. Over 126 Ex-Servicemen attended, including one visually impaired veteran, along with 86 widows and 104 wives and dependents.
The event was led by Brigadier Polash Choudhury, SM (Retd.), who is the Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare in Assam. He was joined by Col Padmalochan Barman (Retd.), the Welfare Officer of the Zila Sainik Welfare Office in Kamrup (M), and other important officials, including Shri Aziruddin Ahmed, the BDO representative from Boko Circle, and Smt. Pushpalata Boro, the wife of a war veteran. Ex-Servicemen were warmly welcomed by Ex-Sub Krishnapati Boro, an advisor to the Ex-Servicemen Association in Boko.
Col Barman spoke about several programs to help Ex-Servicemen. He explained how the government is working to provide support for their rehabilitation and resettlement. He also talked about pension-related issues, the health care system (ECHS), and opportunities for job reservations in government posts. Col Barman highlighted an upcoming "Job Fair" on 7th February at Narangi Army Camp to help Ex-Servicemen find work.
Brig Choudhury thanked the veterans and their families for their selfless service to the country. He encouraged them to stay involved in social activities and contribute to nation-building. He assured them that their concerns would be handled quickly and stressed that the Rajya Sainik Board is always committed to their welfare.
During the event, a special ceremony took place where Veer Naris (widows of soldiers), orphans, disabled dependents, and distinguished veterans were honored for their bravery and sacrifices. This was a touching moment to show the nation's respect for their contributions.
The rally was a great opportunity for Ex-Servicemen and their families to come together, raise their concerns, and learn about the support available to them. It also helped strengthen the sense of unity and camaraderie among the Ex-Servicemen community. (PR)
