The Indian Army inaugurated the 2nd Indigenous Naga Wrestling District Level Junior Championship-2024 yesterday on 4rth December 2024 in Senapati district, Manipur. The three-day competition, running from December 4 to 6, is a celebration of traditional sports seeking to promote cultural heritage and build camaraderie among youth.
Building on the success of the inaugural edition, this championship has drawn considerable attention from participants and spectators alike. Open to boys aged 10 to 20 years, the competition features three weight categories: under 55kg, 55kg to 65kg, and above 65kg.
The championship seeks to identify and nurture young talent in the native sport of Naga Wrestling, while also offering participants an opportunity to display their skills in a spirit of healthy competition. This initiative echoes the Indian Army’s commitment to youth engagement and the promotion of traditional sports as a medium for boosting community bonds.
“This occasion is a vibrant celebration of Naga culture and a platform to build harmony and sportsmanship among the youth,” a spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence said.
The event has not only drawn competitors but also active support from the community, making it a cultural and sporting highlight for the region. Organizers invited youth from Senapati and surrounding areas to participate, highlighting the role of such efforts in building stronger ties between the Indian Army and local communities.
