Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein attended the closing ceremony of the Lieutenant Chow Inkalit Mannou Memorial Football Tournament 2025 at APIL Ground, Namsai. The tournament honored Lieutenant Chow Inkalit Mannou, a respected teacher and community leader who contributed particularly to education and the Tai Khamti language.
Lt. Chow Inkalit Mannou was a graduate of Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, and dedicated his life to teaching. He retired as Principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Tezu, and continued serving as an advisor to local councils. He also played a key role in improving the Tai Khamti Tonal Script, helping preserve the community’s culture and language.
Deputy CM Chowna Mein praised Lieutenant Mannou’s efforts and said the tournament was a great way to remember his contributions. He appreciated the Mannou family for organizing the event and giving young footballers a platform to showcase their skills.
Chowna Mein also promised to upgrade the football stadium and turn it into a training center for young players from Namsai and nearby districts. He showed the importance of sports in youth development and assured continued support for sports initiatives across Arunachal Pradesh.
The tournament ended with Lekang Sports Club winning the championship, defeating Tezu Bazaar Football Club 2-0 in the final match. The winners received a trophy and ₹2 lakh, while the runners-up got a trophy and ₹1 lakh.
Many dignitaries attended the event, including Advisor and MLA Dr. Mohesh Chai, Advisor and MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, former Minister Nokul Chai, retired Commissioner Tape Bagra, IGP P.N. Khrimey, Chairman of CIMMFT Jaleeng Mannou, and representatives from Tai Khamti organizations.
The tournament’s success paves the way for future editions, encouraging youth participation in sports while honoring Lt. Mannou’s legacy of education and community service. (PR)
