The Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein, inaugurated the 35th Annual College Day 2024 of Indira Gandhi Government College (IGGC) in Tezu today. He also inaugurated the newly constructed Commerce Block in the presence of Tezu MLA Dr. Mohesh Chai, along with other dignitaries.
In his address, Mein highlighted IGGC’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 1986, when it started with just 59 students and 6 faculty members. Today, the institution caters to over 3,000 students, positioning Tezu as an emerging educational hub in the state. He praised the college for its role in empowering youth and fostering an environment where students can excel academically, socially, and personally.
Mein also took the opportunity to felicitate students who achieved top ranks in the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) examinations, urging them to continue working hard and prepare for the evolving job market within and beyond Arunachal Pradesh.
Speaking about the government’s commitment to education, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the increased budgetary allocations for the sector and reiterated that 2024 has been declared the “Year of Youth.” He encouraged students to take advantage of the government’s focus on skill development, technology integration, and career pathways in sports, arts, and culture.
“IGGC is a center of excellence, and we are committed to developing it further,” Mein said, announcing plans for expanding the college’s infrastructure, including the completion of a boundary wall, a library, a laboratory block, and a student center.
He also highlighted the state government’s broader initiatives in sectors like agriculture, horticulture, tourism, and industries. Mein announced plans for two new medical colleges, one in Namsai under the aspirational district program in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, and another in Pasighat, to enhance healthcare facilities in the state.
On the economic front, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the potential for growth in Arunachal Pradesh through advancements in railways, hydropower, and improved connectivity via airways and power distribution. These efforts, he said, would create jobs, attract investments, and stimulate local entrepreneurship.
Encouraging the students to strive for excellence, Mein urged them to embrace their future roles as leaders and changemakers. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing necessary support to harness the potential of the youth.
The event was attended by several notable figures, including Zila Parishad Chairperson Dasula Krisikro, DC Lohit Kesang Ngurup Damo, SP Lohit Tumme Amo, Former Minister Nukul Chai, and IGGC Principal Kangki Megu. (PR)
