The Indian Army marked the 78th Infantry Day with ceremonies at Leimakhong Military Station in Manipur and Zakhama Military Station in Nagaland, honoring the valour and sacrifices of Infantry soldiers. Known as Shaurya Diwas, Infantry Day commemorates the Indian Army’s historic landing at the Srinagar Airfield on 27 October 1947, a decisive move that thwarted the Pakistani tribal invasion and secured Kashmir for India. This operation is remembered as Independent India's first successful military action.
The day’s events included solemn wreath-laying ceremonies at war memorials in Leimakhong and Zakhama, honoring the brave Infantry soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. A special documentary was also screened, highlighting the contributions of the Infantry Corps in various operations over the years and emphasizing their critical role in upholding national security.
The celebrations saw participation from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division, alongside officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, soldiers, and veterans. The gathering symbolized the enduring bond between generations of soldiers, united by a shared commitment to duty and sacrifice.(PR)
