In a tribute to the valor and sacrifice of the Indian Army, 75-year-old Brigadier Kuldip Singh Gulia (Retd) achieved a monumental feat by walking 1,25,000 steps (approximately 114 kilometers) in a single day to commemorate Infantry Day 2024. Brigadier Gulia’s journey began at midnight on October 26, marking the day with the symbolic goal of “Sawa Lakh Kadam,” under the theme of “Sawa Lakh Se Ek Ladau,” reflecting the spirit of the Sikh Regiment.
The veteran officer began his walk from his residence in Mahadev Nagar, accompanied by troops of the Sikh Regiment and local civilians. His journey included homage at the Sikh Regiment Gurudwara in Jaipur Military Station, followed by a ceremonial stop at Prerna Sthal, the War Memorial of South Western Command, where he paid respects to fallen soldiers.
Brig Gulia’s walk continued through Grass Farm Nursery Park in Khatipura, leading him to the Gandiv Stadium, where his endeavor concluded. Notable participants included ultra-marathon athlete Sher Singh and dedicated fitness enthusiasts like Shakti, Pooja, Rajnish, and Sikh Regiment soldiers, all who walked alongside Brigadier Gulia to promote the message of a “Fit India.”
A dedicated soldier, Brig Gulia has served in the 4 Sikh Regiment, commanded an Infantry Brigade in Gandhinagar, and was the Deputy General Officer Commanding (GOC) of a Mountain Division in Bareilly. Beyond his military career, he is an accomplished author, having written 'Human Ecology of Sikkim', which also served as his Ph.D. thesis, and 'Genesis of Disasters', a study inspired by the 2001 Gujarat earthquake and rehabilitation work. He has also contributed to 15 volumes of 'An Encyclopedia of Himalayan Studies' and five volumes of 'Encyclopedia of Human Ecology'.
As he nears his 76th birthday on October 28, Brig Gulia’s message resonates across the nation, honoring the unwavering spirit of Indian Infantry soldiers and inspiring Indians to pursue fitness and courage in the service of the nation.(PR)
