Neglected Pfutsero-Zhavame Road Condition Sparks Outcry from National People's Party

Youths from the Razeba area of Phek district initiated a crowdfunding campaign and successfully repaired a 10-kilometer stretch of the road under the theme “My Road, My Future.” This effort was crucial in ensuring access for the over 8,000 residents who rely on this road for their daily needs.

The National People's Party (NPP) of the 17th Chizami Assembly Constituency has raised serious concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of the Pfutsero-Zhavame road. In a strongly worded press communiqué issued on 21st August 2024, the party highlighted the government's continued neglect of this vital road, which serves as a critical link between Nagaland and Manipur, as well as the lifeline for four villages and towns: Tsüpfüme, Razeba, Zelome, and Zhavame.

According to the NPP, the road has been in a state of disrepair for many years, with no significant efforts made by the government to either construct or repair it. The party pointed out that in 2021, the local community, frustrated by the government's inaction, was forced to take matters into their own hands. Youths from the Razeba area of Phek district initiated a crowdfunding campaign and successfully repaired a 10-kilometer stretch of the road under the theme “My Road, My Future.” This effort was crucial in ensuring access for the over 8,000 residents who rely on this road for their daily needs.

The NPP has now called upon the state government to address this issue urgently. "It is time for the government to do justice to the people of the Razeba area," the communiqué stated, emphasizing that the current road conditions have caused significant hardship for travelers and have severely impacted the local economy. The party highlighted that despite the area's agricultural potential, including Zhavame being declared a 'Vegetable Village' and Tsüpfüme as a 'Ground Apple Village,' farmers are unable to transport their produce to markets due to the poor state of the road.

The NPP warned that the continued neglect of this crucial infrastructure could lead to public unrest, as the residents of the area are no longer willing to endure the hardship caused by the government's apathy. The party concluded by demanding that the state government provide an all-weather road to the Razeba area as soon as possible.

The NPP's media cell, which issued the statement, urged the state government to take immediate action to improve the road, ensuring that the residents of the Razeba area can exercise their basic right to safe and accessible transportation.
