The second edition of the Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament wrapped up successfully on October 21 at Hijuguri Stadium in Tinsukia, Upper Assam. The closing ceremony featured an array of cultural and martial performances, culminating in a spectacular band display.
Young athletes showcased their talents during the tournament, with Noimikha Saikia taking first place in the Under 15 Girls category and Hrishikesh Gogoi winning in the Under 15 Boys category. In the Under 19 categories, Avikaa Borgohain and Produnya Bhuyan emerged as the champions for the girls and boys, respectively. Each winner received a cash prize of ₹50,000, while the runners-up were awarded ₹25,000.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Major General Sameer Sharan Kartikeya, Sena Medal, General Officer Commanding of the Red Shield Division. In his address to the enthusiastic crowd, he expressed delight over the tournament’s success and emphasized the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to welfare and sports initiatives in Upper Assam. He underscored the Army’s role in fostering development, empowerment, and peace in the region.
Major General Kartikeya also announced the upcoming Capt Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament, scheduled for January 2025, which aims to provide a platform for emerging football talent in the area.
He extended his appreciation to the Assam Badminton Association, Tinsukia Railway Division, Tinsukia District Sports Association, and Tinsukia Development Authority for their essential support in making the tournament a resounding success.
