The Indian Army inaugurated the "Wushu Championship-2024" in Manipur today, as part of its community outreach initiative, Operation Sadbhavana. Held in the scenic Kha Potshangbam Nachou area of Bishnupur district, the championship aims to promote sportsmanship and camaraderie among Manipur's youth through the ancient martial art of Wushu. The tournament, set to run from October 26 to October 30, 2024, serves as a platform for athletes across the state to exhibit their talent and dedication in this intense and visually captivating discipline.
The grand opening ceremony was marked by an impressive Wushu Sanda demonstration, a traditional Thang Ta dance performance, and a parade by participating athletes. Notable figures in attendance included Mr. Lourenbam Bikram, District Commissioner of Bishnupur, Mr. K Ravi Kumar, Superintendent of Police, along with district Wushu officials and local sports enthusiasts. Their presence underscored the community’s support for over 200 young athletes who are poised to showcase their skills over the coming days.
The Army extended its best wishes to all participants, commending their dedication and the spirited competition that Wushu, as a martial art, fosters.
