Infantry Day holds significant historical importance as it commemorates a pivotal moment in India's military history. On October 27, 1947, infantry units were airlifted to Srinagar to defend Jammu and Kashmir against an invasion by tribal militias and the Pakistan Army. This operation marked the first military engagement conducted by independent India and laid the foundation for the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947-1948.
